A 15-year-old boy has been accused of raping a five-year-old Tripura girl in Thanchi upazila of Bandarban. “Victim's guardian filed a complaint with the police station at around 10:30am today. Based on it, the accused was detained with assistance from locals. A case was subsequently filed, and the accused was produced before the Bandarban District Court,” Thanchi Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Kanan Sarkar said today. “The child was sent to Bandarban District Sadar Hospital for medical examination and primary treatment,” he added.
According to locals, the child was allegedly lured to the accused's house with the promise of food last night, where she was raped. The girl later informed her parents about the incident, after which she was immediately taken to the local health complex for treatment. The accused is a resident of Notun Para under Thanchi Sadar union, locals said. After residents handed the accused over to police, news of the incident quickly spread among students and local people.
Protesters later surrounded the police station, demanding justice for the victim and punishment for the accused. Tension briefly escalated between local residents and members of the police and Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB). With assistance from the BGB, police later sent the accused to the Bandarban District Court. Thanchi Upazila Health and Family Planning Officer Dr Mohammad Wahidduzzaman said, “After receiving information about the incident, a female doctor at the Upazila Health Complex was instructed to provide necessary medical assistance.”
