May was a varied month in terms of the listings attracting eyeballs on realcommercial.com.au, with four states and three different asset classes making up the top five. A holy offering in Mount Gambier The Saint Andrews Uniting Church at 26-28 Elizabeth Street in Mount Gambier topped the view count on realcommercial.com.au in May. Dating back to 1870, this ‘Gothic Revival’ church sits on 9,582sqm, nearly a hectare, and has been a bastion of the community for many years. Its heritage listing means it’s suited to tasteful repurposing, with the newly-refurbished manse providing accommodation, multiple bedrooms, bathrooms and administrative spaces.
The substantial corner block site has also been pitched for its subdivision potential. It’s been offered by Jason Malseed of Malseed Real Estate, and offers will be steepled by 9 July. A pure pub play on the Central Coast While the Catho Pub might have seen some ungodly behaviours over the years, Catherine is a name synonymous with religion, with origins in the Greek word for ‘pure’. Now the Catho Pub at 24 Clarke Street in Catherine Hill Bay, in the Lake Macquarie region of NSW, is up for grabs and stands as the second-most viewed listing in May.
The Catho Pub has been a local institution for more than 140 years, and is one of the earliest surviving pubs in the region. Today it’s jointly offered by CBRE Sydney’s Ben Wicks, and Colliers Newcastle’s Peter Macadam. Last drinks – or expressions of interest – will close on 10 June. A rather prickly affair near Yeppoon The architecturally-designed Pineapple Drive Workstores, at 42 Pineapple Drive in Hidden Valley, prove that industrial can be sexy.
While you’ll be forking over a bit more than a pineapple for these storage sheds, they are going fast – stages one and two have been sold, with stage three on offer currently. Comprising of 22 workstores ranging from 105–107sqm, each unit comes complete with bathroom and kitchenette amenities, designed to be user-friendly. The small-format industrial site suits a range of uses and businesses, and is being offered by Adam Kelly of Elders Commercial in Rockhampton. A smash hit with prodigal sons on the Gold Coast KDV Sports Centre, a huge 11.85ha freehold site across five titles at 221-249 Nerang-Broadbeach Road and 8 Chisholm Road in Carrara has hit the market, and includes a sports academy along with a 69-room hotel, golf-driving range, pickleball courts, soccer facilities, fitness centres and function venues.
It was, for a brief period, a motivator for Wimbledon winner and former world number one Lleyton Hewitt to up sticks and move to the Gold Coast to help his son, Cruz, perfect his craft and follow in dad’s footsteps. You could argue the move paid off, with Cruz gaining entry to the 2025 and 2026 Australian Opens as a wildcard ticket. News Corp reports that the current vendor, Denis Shtengelov, developed the centre on the old Carrara Gardens golf club more than a decade ago with the aim of making tennis a sport “not just for the rich”. The sprawling site is for sale via an international expressions of interest campaign via Roland Evans and Angus Cottrell of Canford Estate Agents.
Boho chic in Clifton Hill A character-filled red brick mixed-use office and industrial space is up for grabs at 8 Hilton Street in Clifton Hill, just to the east of Melbourne CBD. It rounds out the top-five most-viewed listings on realcommercial.com.au for May, and is offered by James Lie and Tony Sun of Morley Commercial in Richmond. The inner-eastern suburbs are emerging as a CBD-fringe hub for tech companies, startups, and creative types alike, plying their wares away from the flashy office spaces in the city. This warehouse offers an open plan space, private offices and meeting rooms, a workshop area, and bathroom and kitchenette across 182sqm of floor area and 280sqm of land.
