In a bid to seal any potential technological loopholes, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has issued a fresh, stringent directive to all Indian Premier League (IPL) franchises regarding match-day protocols. Sources close to the development have told Sports Now that players and support staff have been explicitly warned to be wary of bringing any unauthorized communication devices into restricted areas, specifically singling out a new wave of "smart glasses" making their way into the dressing rooms. The advisory serves as a stark reminder that eyewear equipped with hidden cameras, video-recording capabilities, messaging functions, or any features that mimic a smartphone are strictly forbidden on match days. Heightened Vigilance Following Recent Breaches The crackdown on wearable tech doesn't come out of nowhere; the ACSU has been on high alert following a string of protocol breaches earlier in the 2026 season.
Just weeks ago, Rajasthan Royals' Romi Bhinder was slapped with a ₹1 lakh fine and handed a strict warning after television cameras caught him using a mobile phone inside the team dugout during a live match. The incident forced the BCCI to remind franchises that outside of the Team Manager (who may use a phone strictly in the dressing room, but never the dugout) and the team analyst, all communication devices are strictly banned during play.
Additionally, the ACSU was forced to issue a warning earlier in May regarding unauthorized individuals being spotted in team areas, including dugouts and team hotels. "This time, we have observed various anomalies and irregularities in the conduct of certain franchises and players. So BCCI and IPL are preparing an advisory, and we are going to release that advisory this evening because we have noticed that there are a lot of unauthorised persons who are moving along with the team members. And some people who are unauthorised are coming to the hotels and to the players' rooms or the team officials' room, which is totally against our anti-corruption protocols," BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia had told ANI.
"We have also seen that certain team owners and officials are mingling with players in areas where it is not allowed. So there are certain protocols we have to follow, and we have seen there are some dilutions. We have taken this very seriously. We are issuing an advisory, and it will be very strictly followed.
If there is any violation hereinafter, then BCCI and IPL will take very stringent action," he added. Get Latest News Live on Times Now along with Breaking News and Top Headlines from Cricket, IPL 2026, IPL Points Table, and around the Sports.
