CM Suvendu Adhikari On Anik Dutta's Death: Kolkata Police Will Investigate Mysterious Circumstances

The untimely demise of Bengali filmmaker Anik Dutta has sent shockwaves across the country. The celebrated director, known for films like Bhooter Bhabishyat, Ashchorjyo Prodeep, Meghnad Badh Rahasya, Aparajito and more, passed away on Wednesday (May 27) after allegedly falling from the terrace of his Kolkata home. He was 67. The fatal fall of the Borunbabur Bondhu director has raised suspicions surrounding his death.

West Bengal leader Suvendu Adhikari has said that he trusts Kolkata Police to investigate the case and "unearth the mysterious circumstances" behind the incident. The West Bengal CM also visited the SSKM Hospital to pay his final respects to the acclaimed filmmaker. He was seen offering his condolences to the family. She said that she was deeply saddened by the tragic passing of Dutta.

She called his untimely demise a huge loss for the world of cinema and the entire Tollywood fraternity. Calling him a "gifted storyteller, visionary filmmaker and a true inspiration," she added that through his remarkable work and creative vision, he had carved a special place in the hearts of audiences and contributed immensely to Bengali cinema. Agnimitra also extended her heartfelt condolences to his family, loved ones, friends, and admirers during the difficult time, and prayed for his soul to rest in peace. He was rushed to a nearby hospital but later succumbed to his injuries during treatment. Reportedly, he had been living alone in the residence for the past few months, while his daughter resided in Mumbai. For those unversed, the renowned filmmaker and his former partner, costume designer Sandhi Dutta, have a daughter named Rai Dutta, also known as Oishi Dutta or Eishi. She works as a communications professional and had earlier acted in her father’s 2013 film Ashchorjyo Prodeep.

Meanwhile, condolences continue to pour in on social media.
