The categories were At My Best, which acknowledges students that perform beyond expectations in any area. The second category was Giving Back, which highlights incredible contributions from students in terms of activism and community building. Finally, Kindness is Cool shed light on students who gone above and beyond in displaying compassion and empathy. Among those who won, Ximena Trejo Castelán, a student from St.
Joseph’s Catholic Secondary School, was celebrated for her determination to seek equity and justice in the world. “I’m an immigrant from Mexico and I’ve found since moving to Canada, it’s made me realize this is an important country,” said Castelán, noting her experience in Canada so far has motivated her to uplift her community here as well as back home. “I’m personally concerned with children all over the world. That’s why I want to pursue a career in law … one day I can hopefully be a Crown attorney and defend all these children who are helpless.”
