Coronation Street fans were seen sharing their comments on social media as Sarah Platt and Todd Grimshaw's heartbreaking loss was remembered, 22 years on. It was early last year that the two characters were seen reconnecting in the ITV soap, much to viewers' delight. They recalled how Sarah and Todd had a romance over 20 years ago, and that Sarah became pregnant with Todd's baby, her second child after welcoming daughter Bethany at the age of 13. The pregnancy came after Sarah left home at No. 8 Coronation Street to live with Todd in 2003.
Todd rushed Sarah into getting engaged before she fell pregnant, which is when Todd ended up confessing that he was gay and had been having an affair with nurse Karl Foster. Following the ordeal, Sarah didn't want Todd at Billy's funeral, but he showed up and told Sarah he wasn't there for Billy when he was alive and needed to be there now. During Monday's (June 1) visit to the cobbles, Sarah and Todd were seen remembering their son on what would have been his 22nd birthday.
They were sitting on the bench outside Audrey Roberts' salon, opposite the Rovers Return, as they looked over a picture of their baby. Sarah explained how she phoned Todd 'first thing', but he explained his current phone wasn't working properly as his own phone was still with the police following the murder of his abusive husband, Theo Silverton. Carla and Lisa Connor-Swain then came walking down the street, with Carla quick to ask if Sarah was ok. And fans were pleased that their past was remembered. @gertieperkins8 said: "Thank you Corrie for remembering and honouring the history that many of us remember watching, and thank you for this beautiful platonic friendship!
More please! #Corrie." @sam_Fletcher78 replied: "Always needs a mention, Todd and Sarah will always have Billy and have each others back too!" @senecaco posted: "For a show often accused of selective memory, it was lovely to see Todd and Sarah remembering their Billy. Moments like this matter. #Corrie." @Bo88797665 commented: "It was a sweet moment of Sarah and Todd reminiscing about that Billy would’ve been 22 years old now. #Corrie." @xxgemxxo added: "I adore this friendship and appreciate so much how they’ve kept their bond from Billy alive on screen."
