Coronation Street star Jack P Shepherd has revealed that there are "dark" scenes ahead for his character David Platt and wife, Shona, which comes after they welcomed their first child together earlier this year. Viewers of the ITV soap saw back in early January a nervous David and Shona Platt preparing for her complex surgery, which saw her give birth to their daughter. Fans will recall that during a routine scan during the pregnancy, after the couple discovered they were set to welcome their first child together, the sonographer spotted a mass on the baby's neck, and a consultant later confirmed the presence of a tumour. Shona wasn't willing to give up on her daughter and went ahead with the pregnancy, but her and David's plans were thrown into chaos when they were involved in a horror crash, impacting the lives of those in Weatherfield and in Emmerdale . They were caught up in the catastrophic incident, which featured in the special Corrie and Emmerdale crossover episode, Corriedale, as the multi-vehicle pile-up, and it left Shona having to deliver her baby earlier than expected. It also led to her being reunited with her long-lost sister, Jodie Ramsey, whose unusual behaviour has seen her getting in between Shona and her husband. Now, Jack has revealed there is more trouble ahead for the soap couple.
"David has just had a baby with Shona and they've got the baby out of hospital and they're taking the baby home", the actor told Digital Spy , adding: "There will be something dark that happens. "It won't happen to the baby. It’s something family-oriented for the Platts. They've been through tough times before and they're going to go through something tough again." It comes after Jodie stepped up her plans to drive a wedge between her sister and David, by tricking him into getting into bed with her.
When all that failed, the newcomer sank to a new low before being kicked out by David and his sister, Sarah, an act that later had dramatic consequences. "She is desperately trying to get what she feels is rightfully hers," Corrie producer Kate Brooks previously confirmed of Jodie. "She has a real soft spot for David, and she sees this life that was built, and she thinks, 'Why couldn't that be? That could be me, that should be my life'.
She could have had a normal kind of life with a family and a dog named after the father in the family. She’s still definitely kind of on that trajectory, but David and Shona are a really strong, united couple. They adore each other. They love each other.
They've been through a lot." When asked what that means for the Platts going forward, Kate explained: "We've obviously got Harper [David and Shona's daughter] still in hospital. Ultimately, Harper will come home, and the stresses of family life will start to really take their toll. "Whether Jodie is able to exploit those weaknesses within that relationship, whether she's able to kind of tempt David over to the dark side, or because she wants to punish Shona for leaving her, she's certainly going to try to come between them.
But as I say, David and Shona are a pretty solid couple. It's whether they can unite and see Jodie for who she is and what she is in time."
