A Kano State High Court No. 21, presided over by Justice Musa Muhammad Dahuru, has sentenced two people to death by hanging after finding them guilty of killing their friend following a football-related argument. The convicts, Yusuf Ahmad Abba, popularly known as Ziro Rijiyar Lemo, and Auwal Abdulhamid Bachirawa, were arraigned before the court for jointly assaulting Ibrahim Umar Mahmud after an argument on June 7, 2025. Abba was said to have repeatedly stabbed the deceased in the stomach, leading to his death. The prosecuting counsel, Barrister Lamido Abba Soron Dinki, presented five witnesses during the trial to prove the allegations against the defendants.
Counsel to the accused persons pleaded with the court to temper justice with mercy. Delivering judgment, Justice Dahuru held that the prosecution had proved its case beyond a reasonable doubt and found the two defendants guilty as charged. The judge subsequently sentenced them to death by hanging.
