Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) today warned city residents not to be deceived by fake SMS regarding payment of traffic fines imposed by its Traffic Division. In a press release, DMP said residents have recently been receiving such messages through different social media platforms. The messages are “completely fabricated and false”, it said. The release, signed by NM Nasiruddin, deputy commissioner of DMP’s Media and Public Relations Division, said artificial intelligence (AI) and video-detected traffic cases are disposed of through a specific process.
If a case is filed against any vehicle for violating the Road Transport Act, 2018, a letter signed by the officer concerned of the relevant traffic division or the traffic technical unit is sent to the vehicle owner’s address, the release said. The DMP said SMS, if necessary, will be sent only from two official mobile numbers: 01320-042207 and 01320-042227. Fines imposed by the DMP Traffic Division can be paid through online banking services, including Upay and CBBL, according to the release. The DMP Traffic Division will never ask anyone for a PIN code, password or OTP, it said.
For information on AI or video-detected traffic cases, residents have been advised to contact Delta-3 at 01320-042207 or 01320-042227, or call 999.
