Drink-driving could lead to people being banned from driving or even sent to prison in certain circumstances. Experts warn one pint of beer or a standard glass of wine could put motorists over the reduced limit in some cases.
Police advise people not to drink at all if they are planning on driving. The Government intends to cut the drink-drive limit in England and Wales from the current 35 micrograms down to 22 as part of a new road safety strategy. Ministers released details of their plans earlier this year alongside other tougher driving measures.
These include penalty points for seatbelt offences and mandatory eyesight tests for over-70s. Officials say these will help to bring down the number of deaths and injuries on UK roads.
