Erling Haaland told Manchester City fans that the players will keep fighting to win the biggest trophies as they said goodbye to the manager that helped to lift all of them. Pep Guardiola had his final farewell with a parade and party after ten glorious years at the Etihad that have seen Blues live their wildest dreams. It has been a remarkable ride, but there is also caution for what comes next. City wanted to keep Guardiola for as long as possible, with an acceptance that whoever took over will be a step down from one of the best managers the game has ever seen.
The club cannot afford to wallow though, and identified Enzo Maresca as the man to take City forward. As Guardiola, Bernardo Silva and John Stones leave , plans are underway to use the summer transfer window to add to a squad that won two trophies this season and took the Premier League title race to the final week. Click here to find out the latest Manchester City news in our daily newsletter City celebrated winning the two domestic cups alongside the women's team and the Under-18s on Sunday, but Haaland - one of the leadership group - made it clear on Monday that their eyes next year are on the two biggest prizes on offer. Having put the disappointment of the 2024/25 season behind them, those who remain at the Etihad want to get back to winning the league.
"It has been an up-and-down season, but we are going to try to keep pushing and try to fight to win the biggest trophies we can. That's what we want to win and we are fighting to win everything again. It was a great feeling to win the Treble and we will try to win it again," he told supporters inside the Co-op Live Arena. "It has been a pleasure to play with Bernardo and John - and of course Pep.
We won a lot of trophies and I am happy to play with Bernardo and John because they are amazing footballers but even better people deep down. It has been an amazing journey, but we need to keep pushing and fighting even without them. "Now it is time to celebrate them and they are truly legends of the club. Amazing players and amazing humans."
