Father kills daughter over inter-caste marriage in Maharashtra, arrested

Hours later, a young woman was dead, her father had vanished, and police had launched a manhunt to track down the accused.Three days after the shocking murder, Bazarpeth Police arrested the victim’s father, Vinod Vasekar, who had been on the run since the crime. During questioning, investigators uncovered a motive that has sent shockwaves through the city.According to police, the victim, Gayatri Vasekar, had returned to her parental home for a short stay after her marriage. On the day of the incident, family members had finished lunch and were at home when an argument broke out between Gayatri and her father.What started as a heated exchange quickly escalated.

In a fit of rage, Vinod allegedly attacked his daughter with a sharp weapon. The assault proved fatal, and Gayatri died on the spot before help could arrive.As panic spread through the household, the accused fled the scene, leaving behind a devastated family and a mystery that investigators were determined to solve.Police immediately launched a search operation, relying on technical surveillance, intelligence inputs, and searches at multiple locations. After three days of relentless efforts, officers finally tracked down and arrested the accused. The investigation later revealed that the roots of the tragedy stretched back to her marriage.Police said Gayatri had married a man from another community against her family's wishes.

Her father strongly opposed the relationship and had reportedly arranged engagement proposals for her on two separate occasions, both of which she rejected. She later chose to marry the man she loved.Investigators believe the marriage remained a source of resentment for the accused. During Gayatri’s visit home, the issue resurfaced, leading to another confrontation between father and daughter.
