Several flights from Edinburgh and Glasgow have been delayed this evening due to a fuel shortage. Passengers at Scotland's two largest airports have been held up due to the issue with jet fuel supplies on Sunday night. It's not currently clear exactly what cause the shortage, but it's understood this is a local supply issue which is impacting both Edinburgh and Glasgow Airport. It's believed around a dozen flights from Edinburgh Airport faced delays this evening, although it has not been confirmed if these were all as a result of the fuel issue.
It's understood that some Glasgow flights are operating via Prestwick for fuelling, while some Edinburgh flights may have to fuel at Manchester. Fuming travellers took to social media to report issues after being delayed on Sunday night. Philip Lunn wrote on X: "Due to fly Edinburgh to Malta today with Jet 2. Airport has run dry so grounded.
Same with BA and understand an Air Lingus flight had to land in Belfast to refuel en route to Dublin. Crazy to have everyone boarding and then say oh whoops no fuel." Courtney Larrivey replied: "Yep, I'm stuck here and supposed to be on a BA flight to Heathrow." Theresa McDonagh added: "I'm currently stuck at Edinburgh Airport as they have run out of fuel. BA trying to source some!" A spokesman for Edinburgh Airport said: “A fuel supplier is currently working to resolve an issue affecting several airlines. The airport is assisting where possible, and passengers are advised to check directly with their airline for the latest information on their flight.” A Glasgow Airport spokesperson declined to comment, stressing that it is the airlines who are responsible for sourcing and buying their own fuel from suppliers.
