A Hearts fan who got a new Lawrence Shankland tattoo is demanding the Gorgie club cough up for it to be removed. Jack Robertson treated himself to the inking on his calf while the ex-Jambos hero was spearheading their ill-fated title challenge.
But the Tynecastle side lost the league on the final day of the season which was closely followed by Shankland quitting for Rangers. Jack, 21, posted a picture of the skin art online and said: “Less than a month old. “Fully expect the club to pay for a cover up. Cheers.” The impressive design shows Shankland on a playing card as the Nine of Hearts - denoting his squad number. One rival fan used AI to show the player - whose new squad number is seven - in a Rangers kit stating: “Fixed that for you pal.” Jack said: “No the nine of Hearts anymore is it ya melon." Shankland is believed to have joined the Ibrox club for no transfer fee.
Another Rangers fan praised the ink saying: “In all seriousness, that is a superb tattoo design as well.” Jack joked: “I’ll cut it off and it’s yours for the right price mate. I’ll let the club negotiate so you’ll probably get it free of charge.” One user said: “Oof mate, that’s proper brutal timing. “Less than a month old and he’s already off to Rangers.” Another added: “At least you didn’t jump the gun and get ‘SPL Champions 2026 ’ inked.” Others were less complimentary about the design. One said: “Change the football kit to a Liverpool kit. “The player looks more like Michael Owen than Lawrence Shankland.” Another commented: “Luckily it looks nothing like him.” In 2005 Hearts fan Stan Thomson infamously had ex owner Vladimir Romanov ’s surname tattooed in large letters on his back. Romanov’s controversial time in charge ended with the club being plunged into administration and on the brink of going bust.
Shankland, 30, scored 88 goals for Hearts during his four years at the club. This included seven against Rangers and a total of 20 last season.
Despite leading the Scottish Premiership since September, Hearts lost out on the title to Celtic following a 3-1 final day defeat at Parkhead.
