FYJC admissions: Mumbai sees softer cut-offs in first admission merit list

The state of Maharashtra has come out with the first merit list for Std XI students with 133323 students being allotted colleges across the Mumbai region in the first list where cutoffs were slightly lower compared to previous years The maximum number of students were allotted for commerce followed by science and then humanities The first merit list was released for the students on Friday May 29 following several portal hitches that came up in the previous week owing to student traffic on the FYJC portalLike every year colleges across Mumbai saw soaring cutoffs with HR College closing their first list cutoff at 93 per cent while RA Podar closed theirs at 942 per cent For humanities St Xavierrsquos College closed its cutoff at 926 per cent for humanities and colleges like Ruia and BK Birla closed their science cutoff at 466 marks or 932 per cent This year 67 thousand students of the 13 lakh allotted secured the first preference of their college211660Students applying for the first merit list133323Total allotment students in first merit list67583Students with first choice junior collegePrincipalSpeakPooja Ramchandani principal of HR CollegelsquoThe cutoffs have slightly slid down this year with ours being 02 per cent lower This could be the result of stricter correction for the Maharashtra State Board and the CBSE board Std X papers since the pass percentage for both has come down this yearrsquoKaruna Gokarn principal of St Xavierrsquos CollegelsquoWe have seen a dip across the junior college streams however cutoffs for a few graduate courses have dipped too since students are now opting for professional courses over traditional onesrsquoPortal problemPrincipals also indicate that the initial glitches in the portal could have resulted in several students forgoing the first list and waiting for the second list applications while many students also delay applications since they are travelling during this periodThe education department has now advised students who have not been allotted colleges to lock their admission form Part 2 ahead of the second merit list
