During a chase of 215 runs, Shubman Gill and Sai Sudharsan surpassed Chris Gayle and Virat Kohli for the most century partnerships in T20 cricket. The pair added 167 runs in 12.5 overs before Sudharsan was dismissed by a hit-wicket. This marked their 11th century stand in 48 innings, surpassing Gayle and Kohli’s 10-century stands in 63 innings. The 167-run partnership also set a new record for the highest IPL playoff partnership for any wicket, exceeding the previous record of 159 runs shared by Michael Hussey and Murali Vijay in the 2011 final against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB).
Gill’s century contributed to his achievement of two 700-plus run seasons in the IPL, making him the fourth batsman to do so. This season, he has scored 722 runs in 15 matches and innings, averaging 48.13 with a strike rate of 163.71, including one century and six fifties. He had also surpassed 700 runs in the 2023 season with 890 runs. Other players with two 700-plus run seasons include Virat Kohli (973 runs in 2016 and 741 runs in 2024), Sai Sudharsan (759 runs in 2025 and 710 runs in 2026), and Chris Gayle (733 runs in 2012 and 708 runs in 2013).
This was Gill’s fifth IPL century and his second as captain. He recorded the fastest hundred by a Gujarat Titans batter, beating his previous 49-ball hundred against Mumbai Indians in the 2023 Qualifier 2 at Ahmedabad. Gill is also the first captain to score a century in IPL playoffs. The Gujarat Titans secured a three-wicket victory to advance to the title match against Royal Challengers Bangalore at Ahmedabad on Sunday.
Rajasthan Royals had posted 214 for 6, aided by a robust innings from Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, who scored 96 runs off 47 balls, hitting eight fours and seven sixes, and a quick 38 not out from Donovan Ferreira in 11 balls with two fours and four sixes. In response, skipper Shubman Gill scored 104 runs off 53 balls, with 15 fours and three sixes, while Sai Sudharsan contributed 58 runs from 32 balls, including eight fours and one six. Their 167-run partnership was instrumental in chasing down the target. This chase represents the highest target successfully pursued in IPL playoffs history, surpassing Punjab Kings’ chase of 204 against Mumbai Indians in last year’s Qualifier Two.
It is also Gujarat Titans’ highest IPL run chase, surpassing their previous best of 204 against Delhi Capitals in 2025.
