Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai, which had been embroiled in controversy over the use of iconic hit tracks, finally arrived in theatres on Friday. Led by Varun Dhawan, the film marks the retirement of veteran director David Dhawan and also stars Mrunal Thakur and Pooja Hegde in lead roles. Jimmy Shergill, Mouni Roy, Rakesh Bedi, Chunky Pandey, Maniesh Paul and others are also part of the comedy film, which opened to mixed reviews from critics and audiences. On Day 1, the film got off to a slow start at the box office, collecting less than Rs 10 crore.
Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai Box Office Collection Day 1 According to reports, the film earned just Rs 7.50 crore on its opening day. It was screened across 9,081 shows and recorded an average occupancy of 17% on Friday. This indicates a lukewarm response from moviegoers. The film will now rely heavily on positive word of mouth and stronger footfalls over the weekend to improve its box office performance.
Trade experts expect collections to grow into double digits on Saturday, but the real test lies on its first Monday. The Day 4 collections will largely determine the film's long-term prospects at the ticket windows. Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai is currently facing stiff competition from Peddi, starring Ram Charan and Janhvi Kapoor. The sports drama, helmed by Buchi Babu Sana, opened to a massive response, crossing Rs 50 crore on Day 1 alone.
Although it witnessed a drop in collections on Friday, it still managed to earn around Rs 22 crore, taking its total closer to the Rs 100 crore mark. Also running in theatres is Bandar, starring Bobby Deol.
Despite limited pre-release buzz, the film has received fairly positive reviews from critics and audiences alike. Sadly, it had an underwhelming start at the box office, earning only Rs 30 lakh (as per early estimates). More About HJTIHH Varun's latest comedy revolves around a man whose world is turned upside down when both his estranged wife and present girlfriend discover they are expecting his child. Our in-house critic gave it 2.5/5 stars and opined, "Except for a few moments here and there, Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai largely falls flat, coming across as unfunny, exhausting, and ultimately forgettable."
