AGUSAN DEL SUR — Third time is the charm for Jarrell Mark Ancajas of Region 12 (SOCCKSARGEN).Trained by International Boxing Federation (IBF ) champion Jerwin Ancajas, Jarell settled for silver in his two previous outings in Palarong Pambansa. But this time, he is hungrier than ever to snatch the gold. “I am very happy, because I prepared for a long time for this fight. I locked in for two months, and this is my third try in Palarong Pambansa. I am happy to finally have the gold for the first time,” Ancajas told The Manila Times in Filipino. “I am inspired by my uncle; he is the reason why I am here.”Jerwin’s nephew overcame John Albert Bersabal of Region 10 (Northern Mindanao) in the flyweight 48-50 kilogram (kg) secondary level boys’ category.“My uncle is the one who teaches me. He teaches me what combo to use against my opponent.
Boxing is really tough; it’s a punch directed towards you. Even getting the right weight is difficult.”Just like his uncle, the 17-year-old Ancajas dreams of being a champion one day.“I want to be a world champion. My idol is my uncle and, of course, our legendary champion, Manny Pacquiao,” the southpaw boxer shared.
