James Bond is facing a staggering return as TWO MEN under secret plans being reviewed by Amazon bosses. Bond will hit the big screen under the directorship of Denis Villeneuve for a three picture run with a thirty something leading man.
But executives are looking at plans for a TV series centered around the premise of the newly released game First Light. That character is a younger 007 finding his way in the ranks of newcomers to Mi6. The discussions are part of Amazon's enterprise teams developing money spinning ways to build a "Bond universe" and build multiple revenue streans for the intellectual property, which they have acquired in 2024. A Los Angeles producer, who has worked with Amazon in the past, says that “proposals for a TV show are definitely in the mix with the Bond universe.” Currently their priority is Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight and Villeneuve settling on a script to revive the spy franchise after Daniel Craig’s character was killed.
Amazon’s MGM Studio heads Amy Pascal and David Heyman have held secret conversations with agents but as yet not officially began auditioning prospective leading men for the movie. Insiders say that: “their focus is about getting the plot, star and cast right rather than rushing the project”. The branding teams and development executives within TV are also reviewing how to maximize the opportunity for Ian Fleming’s spy world - given they bought the creative rights outright from Eon Productions in 2025. That deal is poised to reach a billion dollar value over time with a multitude of projects.
One TV idea has been based on bringing in Bond for a series without impacting the box office revenue hopes for the movies. The insider said: “The way things are looking there could be two Bonds coming down the pipe for fans.” They added: “Amazon is serious about using Bond as a creative venture in movie theaters but also as a way to generate revenues. They are examining all aspects of the licensing and marketings and certainly a film launch will help with that once every few years.
However since the deal was struck there has been a lot of discussion in senior executive levels about the consideration of having a Bond TV series. “The clear dilemma is to not damage the appeal of the movies but rather to bolster interest in the 007 world. All sorts of ideas have been floated around from the obvious thought of a young Bond to the suggestion of tracing the past of M, Q or Moneypenny. “Warner Brothers did a very similar move with the Batman universe to huge acclaim with spin off TV shows such as Gotham and The Joker. “Truthfully the universe of Bond has barely been touched for over sixty five years. This new game First Light is of interest because if it generates huge sales and interest in the gaming audiences, then there is potential for a TV series. “No matter what happens and what direction they go in there will be a James Bond in this project no matter what - and that is exciting and a first for the franchise.,” 007 First Light is one of the most anticipated games of the year. It is an action-adventure video game following the Bond origin story, as he embarks on the mission he must complete to earn his license to kill.
