Forensics investigators have been pictured at a crime scene in Wigan following a stabbing which left a man fighting for his life. Officers were called to reports of a knife attack on Avon Road, in the Norley Hall area, at 8.30pm on Friday (May 29). Greater Manchester Police said a man was found with serious stab wounds at the scene. He was rushed to hospital with injuries were described as 'potentially life-threatening'.
In an update issued this morning (Saturday), GMP said the man is now believed to be in a stable condition. Police are yet to make an arrest in connection with the stabbing. Multiple GMP vans were in attendance. Crime scene investigators were seen scouring the area for evidence. Forensics appeared to be focused on an item of clothing on the ground, with photographic evidence being taken at the scene. Detective Inspector Jonathan Waywell, from Wigan CID, said: “This was a shocking act of violence, and our thoughts remain firmly with the victim and his family at this deeply distressing time.
Knife crime is taken extremely seriously and will not be tolerated. "Incidents like this have devastating consequences for victims, families, and communities. I would like to reassure the public that we believe this was a targeted attack and that there is no wider risk to the public. "We understand how worrying this will be, and there will be an increased police presence in the area.
