Love Island's Aidan Murphy turned down a huge TV opportunity before joining the hit dating series. The 23-year-old property broker, who says his looks have been likened to A-list actor Brad Pitt, was unveiled as one of the starting line-up of cast members for the ITV reality show's thirteenth series. He will be rubbing shoulders in the villa with a former detective, West End performer and a model to name but a few. As he gears up for villa life, the Kent native admitted Love Island wasn't his first brush with reality TV.
Sitting down with OK! he shared that he had previously turned down a spot on Celebs Go Dating . The Channel 4 show - which is currently airing its latest season - follows a team of famous faces as they attempt to fine tune their dating skills and meet their perfect match. As part of the programme, the celebrities go on dates with people who are not famous. "Funnily enough I did go through an application for another show, but I didn't take it on," Aidan teased, before naming the show.
"Celebs Go Dating, yeah, that was last year but I didn't end up going through with it." He continued: "I was very busy. It was more I was working and I just think Love Island compared to that show, it's more sort of what I want to do. I want to find love, and I feel like this is going to give me a better opportunity at doing that." The Islander has been single for a little over two years after an amicable split from his ex with whom he got together when he was a teenager. Now he has set his sights on finding a serious relationship, and he has pledged to avoid sex on TV unless he finds a "genuine connection." "I don't plan on having sex.
I think sex is a big thing on both sides," he shared. "In order for you to have sex it’s a genuine connection between two people. I’m going in there, I’m not planning on doing it, if it happens then to me it’s more there is a genuine connection there." Exactly how Aidan will navigate villa life remains to be seen, as before progressing through the application process, he hadn't tuned in to Love Island since the 2019 series where Molly-Mae Hague found love with boxer Tommy Fury . "When I applied it was a bit like 'I’ll apply and see how it goes kind of thing' and then as it got a bit more serious I was a little bit like 'I better actually watch some of the recent series, see what I’m getting myself into' again." Love Island Series 13 begins on Monday, June 1 at 9pm on ITV2 and ITVX.
