As part of the annual Call of Duty release, players can expect to see a plethora of multiplayer maps in the upcoming Modern Warfare 4. There's one map, however, outside of the standard map offerings that's worth discussing. The Westbridge Training Facility, also known as the Kill Block, is being touted as Call of Duty's first dynamic multiplayer map and is unlike anything in the series to this point. The Kill Block map will feature three different components, known as slabs.
The center slab is where a bulk of the changes will take place, shifting between different environments and even potentially implementing pieces from previous Modern Warfare multiplayer maps from across the series' history. According to Multiplayer Design Lead Jacky Reynolds and Technical Designer Jack Hoppus, it's an idea inspired by the Real Madrid football stadium, which splits its pitch in two and submerges it underneath the ground between games. The most interesting thing to note about Kill Block is that the map changes will happen in real-time while a multiplayer match is taking place. This ensures that no two sessions will feel the same and can even mix up the action in round-based sessions like Gunfight.
Kill Block is said to support all of Modern Warfare 4's core multiplayer modes and will feature more than 500 different slab combinations at launch. Kill Block will also receive regular updates over the course of Modern Warfare 4's life cycle with new slab pieces coming after the game's launch. As far as multiplayer announcements go, that's probably the biggest to come out of Modern Warfare 4. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 will release on PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch 2 on Friday, October 23.
