Motorcycle honking dispute sparks clash in Jhenaidah; 1 dead

A violent clash over the sounding of a motorcycle horn in Harinakundu upazila of Jhenaidah left one person dead and several others injured last evening. The incident took place at Boroitala in Joradah union of the upazila; the deceased was identified as Delwar Biswas, 45, son of Khaibar Biswas of Harishpur village, Harinakundu Police Station Officer-in-Charge Golam Kibria said. The injured are currently undergoing treatment at Kushtia General Hospital.
According to police and local sources, the altercation began between two passersby over motorcycle honking and giving way on the road. The dispute quickly escalated, fuelling tension between residents of Harishpur and Pakhimara villages, which then spilled into a broader clash. Members of both sides were reportedly involved in the violence using locally made weapons. During the clash, Delwar Biswas sustained injuries.
He was first taken to the Upazila Health Complex but was later referred to Kushtia General Hospital due to the severity of his condition. He died there while undergoing treatment at around 8:00pm. No case had yet been filed by the victim’s family, OC Golam Kibria said, adding that the situation in the area was currently under control.
