The main items stolen were credit/debit cards, cash and identification cards, and afterwards a suspect used stolen credit cards at a nearby business, police said in a news release. Police have obtained and shared images of a suspect. They have asked residents in the affected area to review any available security footage, including home surveillance systems, doorbell cameras, and dash cams for suspicious activity or individuals during the overnight hours of May 24 to 25.
Residents and businesses are encouraged to register their security cameras with the CamSafe voluntary camera registry program, which helps police quickly identify potential video sources during investigations. Police do not get live access to registered cameras.
Residents are reminded by police to take proactive steps to reduce the likelihood of becoming a victim of theft, by locking their vehicles at all times, removing personal belongings when possible, and ensuring any items that must remain inside are out of sight. Anyone with information that could assist police with their investigation can contact Grey Bruce OPP at 1-888-310-1122 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or online at www.cstip.ca.
