Teenager murdered by friends in Sivaganga district; probe suggests they consumed liquor

In a shocking incident, a 10th standard student was found dead in a waterbody with multiple injuries all over the body in Sivaganga district in the early hours of Friday. Police investigations revealed that the victim identified as Ashwin, 15, son of Nagaraj of Karayur, near Tirupathur, was studying 10th standard in a government school in Thirukalapatti, near here. After the summer vacation, the schools had reopened on June 4 (Thursday). Whether the boy - Ashwin attended the first day in school was not known in the preliminary inquiry.
However, police said that he had reportedly gone with four of his friends, whose names were given as Arvind, 25, Ganesan, 22, and a 17-year-old boy pursuing his diploma in a local college. A senior officer, supervising the investigation said that the four had gone on a two-wheeler to a nearby waterbody and had consumed liquor. Whether all the four were drunk was also unknown, including Ashwin, as the post-mortem reports were awaited, he added. It was said that when they were riding back home from the waterbody at Keezhakavinipatti, they met with an accident and suffered minor injuries.
Following this, there appeared to be some wordy altercation within the four friends. According to the police, Ashwin was found dead near the waterbody in the wee hours.
While the whereabout of Arvind and Ganesan were not known, the fourth person (17-year-old boy) had reportedly narrated the incident, the police said and added that they were on the look out for the two persons. Superintendent of Police Shiva Prasad inspected the scene of crime. Investigations were under way. The Keezhaseevalpatti police have registered a case.
