Kohli made just 15 runs, while Head made 26 but also picked up a wicket in his side’s victory.
Kohli then snubbed Head post-match when the two teams lined up for a customary handshake. Head’s hand was outstretched, but Kohli walked straight past. The relentless onslaught of abuse prompted Head to post a photo of himself hugging with his wife and daughter.
Jess also commented on the situation, saying: “We’ve been completely overwhelmed by the support we have received over the last 24 hours. “I am pleased by the broader conversation this situation has sparked about mental health and respect online.” Channel 7 commentator Bharat Sundaresan said it’s an “outright war” on social media when those two teams clash. “When those two teams play against each other, it’s outright war on social media. It can get pretty nasty and wild between the fans and obviously all the players just cop it,” he said. “There’s no grey area when it comes to this tribalism.” Both Head and Kohli eventually shook hands and made up, but it might not be the end of the firestorm with both sides facing the prospect of facing each other again the finals.
