Veterans football club from Famagusta to play a friendly match in Baku

The delegation of the veterans football club Magusa arrived in the capital of Azerbaijan, where the official part of their international visit is currently taking place. The athletes from Northern Cyprus are in Baku at the special invitation of the Azerbaijani side. This visit has already gone beyond a purely sporting event, turning into an act of people’s diplomacy aimed at strengthening cultural and sporting ties between the two regions. The delegation that arrived in Baku includes former Northern Cypriot football players, public figures and representatives of the leadership of the veterans’ sports movement of Famagusta.

The team’s current program includes a friendly match at one of the capital’s modern stadiums, as well as working meetings with local sports officials to discuss regular bilateral tournaments in the future. In parallel, an introductory tour of Baku’s historical and cultural sites has been arranged for the guests. Local sports commentators emphasize that the team’s presence on Azerbaijani soil is of great importance to the sports community of Northern Cyprus. Such visits make it possible to overcome the international isolation of TRNC sports institutions through direct horizontal ties and personal contacts between athletes.

The leadership of the veterans club from Famagusta has already expressed gratitude to the hosts for the warm welcome and for creating all the conditions for the match.
